Reblog this if you want to spread the word.
On December 2nd 2009, New York rejected the bill that would allow thousands of couples the right to equal marriage.
Without marriage equality, these couples are being denied over 1,300 benefits a heterosexual couple would have, no questions asked. These include seeing a loved on on their death bed (there was just a case where a woman died without seeing her partner or adopted children because they could not be married), health benefits as well as who gets custody of a child after a parent dies.
Technically, under the Bill of Human Rights, we should have these privileges and rights. By not extending them to all GLBT people, the USA is in violation of both the 2nd and 16th article.
On December 9th I am asking you to keep silent in protest of this unfair vote. Just for 24 hours or less if you really must talk. Make signs, draw equality signs on your hands…do what you will. Just make people see how this is an injustice on NY’s behalf. We recognize marriages from elsewhere but we do not preform them.(via ieathellokitty)
